Teen IGF – How to Participate
How to Participate

Showing up is
the first step.

You don’t need to be a tech expert or a policy wonk. You just need to care about the internet and be willing to speak up. Here’s everything you need to know.

Who Can Join

If you’re a teen,
you’re invited.

Teen IGF is open to everyone aged 13–19, anywhere in the world. No application required. No grades. No experience. Just show up.

Ages 13–19 ✓ Any country ✓ Free forever ✓ No experience needed ✓

How to get involved

01

Register for Free

02

Pick Your Focus Area

Choose the internet issue you care most about — AI, digital rights, online safety, internet access, data privacy, or something else entirely. You don’t have to know everything. You just have to care about something.

6 themes to choose from
03

Join a Working Group

Working groups are small teams of 8–15 teens who research a topic together, discuss it, and produce a joint statement or recommendation. You’ll be placed with a group that matches your interests and language.

Online, asynchronous
04

Attend Sessions

Each month we host live online sessions on Zoom where working groups present their findings, debate each other, and hear from guest speakers — sometimes including actual UN delegates and policy experts.

Monthly, 90 minutes
05

Submit Your Statement

At the end of each forum cycle, your working group submits a Youth Statement. These statements are collected into our annual Teen IGF Report, which is formally presented to the UN IGF.

Make infographics, videos, and social content that explain internet governance issues in ways that other teens can actually understand.

Questions? We got you.

Do I need to know about internet governance to join?
Absolutely not. We’ll give you resources and support. All you need is curiosity and an opinion — which you clearly have if you’re reading this.
How much time does it take?
About 2–4 hours per month. Working group discussions happen asynchronously (in your own time), plus one live session per month. You can do more if you want — but that’s the minimum.
Is this available in my language?
We primarily operate in English right now, but we are actively working to support French, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese working groups. If you’d like to help make that happen, reach out!
Will my parents need to sign anything?
If you’re under 16, we’ll ask for a simple parental consent form before you participate in live sessions. It’s just a quick email confirmation — nothing complex.
What do I actually get out of this?
Real experience in policy and advocacy, a global network of peers, a certificate of participation, potential publication in our annual report, and the chance to speak at our flagship annual session. Plus, you know — helping shape the internet.
